Tuesday 3rd July - Cheltenham & County CC Road Race

Despite the dismal conditions, there was a relatively decent turnout for the Chedworth Handicap Road Race on Tuesday Night, promoted by Cheltenham & County CC. Thirty riders lined up, ranging from seasoned - elites to first-timers.

An active approach to handicapping by the organisers gave three evenly balanced groups of similar sizes, with a gap of 3 minutes between the first two groups and further 2.5 minutes to the scratch group.

Beyton and Davis caught the two groups on the final drag from Calmsden to Chedworth. Despite a late surge from Scott McArdle (C&CCC) and Sean Townsend (Gloucester City), Beyton and Davis attacked again to take the first two positions by a healthy margin, with Townsend third. Stockdale punctured before the catch was made.

There were highly commendable rides from Stuart Trigg , making his racing debut, and junior rider Mark Whistler who is returning to competition after completing his exams.

Huge thanks to the judges, drivers and cake makers, but particularly to the static marshals for enduring such grotty conditions. Parts of the course were flooded just 60 mins after the end of the race, which goes to show just what they were up against!

Tuesday 19th June - Glos City Road Race

With a rare spell of good weather on the 19th June, 46 riders signed on to ride the 2012 Gloucester City CCRL event. The course was flat and fast, but with an annoying dog-leg 3/4 of the way round to annoy those near the back of the peleton.

The 3 handicapped groups set off with 4 minutes from the front group (Over 50's and Women) to the middle group (O35s, Juniors, Novices and those with offspring as a handicap). The rest were at 2:30mins.

Before the groups came together at half way, a lone breakaway by Pete Errington of the promoting club was a courageous but ultimately doomed attempt. It did, however, last a good 2 laps (according to Pete) and got his face in the limelight.

After many fruitless attempts at breakaways, the flat finish was contested as a large bunch sprint, with Matt Ullmer coming in first. Top Gloucester Rider was Aled Jones in a fine 7th place.
