Performance Cycles

The Performance Lab

We're committed to providing the right bike, that's been built exactly to your requirements and fits you like a glove. Not only that, but we want to go further than any other 'shop' and give you, the rider, the tools and facilities to achieve whatever it is you set out to achieve - whether it's your first Ironman, the next etape du tour or obtaining that 1st cat licence that has always been just out of reach. And this is why we've created The Performance Lab.

Based alongside Performance Cycles in Poulton, The Performance Lab gives athletes the access to the tools and professionals they need to improve every aspect of their riding. As well as our in-house bike fitting and performance testing studio we have built up a network of professionals who can help you with every element of your training and racing. Whether you need a new pair of running shoes and gait analysis, a coach to work with to improve your riding, regular sports massage or a personal trainer who can develop your strength and stability off the bike – at the Performance Lab we’ve got it covered. Every appointment with The Performance Lab is subject to a £25 booking fee. This is only refundable if the appointment is cancelled with more than 24 hours notice.

Prior to your appointment with us, please fill out this simple questionnaire.

Our expertise..

Andy Kirk
Tracing his interest in bike fitting and rider positions right back to Chris Boardman's Olympic success in 1992 (when he was a young teenager), the development of the Performance Lab was a long term vision that was eventually realised when Performance Cycles was opened in 2009. Andy qualified as one of the UK's first RETUL certified fitters and has trained under the God Father of bike fitting Paul Swift. Having started riding for Cirencester based Corinium Cycling Club in the 90's, he rode the regional heats of the GHS and qualified for the National finals, along with riding the Junior National 10 and the Duo Normand in France (a race won that year by olympic gold medalist and souce of his interest in positioning Chris Boardman). He's ridden time trials, sportives (including the Etape du Tour) and in 2017 took on the local 113 half ironman distance triathlon - after just six weeks of training!!

Will Lewis
Joining the Performance Lab for 2019 as one of our coaches, at 23 years old Will has a very experienced head on his young shoulders. Starting racing at the age of 12 and working his way through the ranks of the French cycling system he has spent the last three seasons riding at French Elite Cat 1 level. Will graduated in sport science with a specialism in cycling performance and coaching from the Université de Besançon (which is the FDJ-Groupama performance hub) and spent part of his internship working as a coach for the UCI at the World Cycling Centre along with another spell there when he graduated giving him the opportunity to work with international level road racers, the Qatar national team and the French National CX team. In 2019 Will will be riding for the UK based OnForm team - stretching his legs on the UK circuit to see what damage he can do!!
